Sorry, Paul... I thought my meaning was clear by the rest of my post.

The way you went on to describe the way vlogin works, I think that it's
working correctly (regardless of the setting above, in my case).  It's
finding the username and logging into the proper account.  My problem was
that I was expecting it to do something it's apparently not designed to do,
and that is to set the user's .prefs file to say that the user should be
emailing with a From address of his or her login name instead of the
username on the machine.

Do I understand correctly?  "Wash" wrote back and said that the way I'd best
preset the .prefs file is to use the New User Wizard plugin... which isn't
ideal for what I want to do either.... I see you just responded with more,
so I'll check those out.
