The only thing I can think of: you can connect to a local mysql server
either through a network device or through a UNIX domain socket.

So the question is: what if you use 127.0.0.1 (or your real ip/FQDN)
instead of localhost in your connection string?
I have used both, localhost and 127.0.0.1 and I even moved the webmail database to another machine and still didn't see it
