We just put in a new init system, which by necessity has broken a LOT of
plugins.  The "core" plugins that come in CVS are already converted to
use the new init system.

Other than that, a current cvs snapshot should work pretty well.  Why
not download it and try?  You don't have to replace your existing stable
install, do a parallel install in another location.  That way you can
test and see if it's "good enough" for your site.
