Which is a *bug* in squidguard due to change\upgrade of squid helpers interface.

squidguard communicates with Squid using the Squid 2.x redirector protocol, which
also works with the different 3.0-3.3 redirector protocol.
Squid 3.4 has an changed redirector protocol that only supports the 3.0-3.3 and 3.4 protocols
but does *not* support the old Squid 2.x protocol.
squidGuard is not updated for over 3 years, so I suggest to look for alternatives.
My suggestion is biased since I am the author of the suggested software, ufdbGuard.
ufdbGuard is based on squidGuard and developed since 2005, has regularly new
releases and supports all versions of Squid. The software is free and it supports all
URL databases that squidGuard supports and also a commercial URL database
of www.urlfilterdb.com.
ufdbGuard can be downloaded from http://www.urlfilterdb.com and http://sourceforge.net
