You were referring I think to the old problem 2.x had iterating the
full length of each object on every write. Which does not affect 3.x.

Its an old problem, going back to design decisions in or before 2.0
AFAIK.
That particular design was fixed in 3.0 beta cycle somewhen. So present
in all 2.x code.
