squid as reverse proxy for DNS ?

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi,
I am in the market for a reverse proxy that does intelligent load
balancing for DNS. I've used Squid for proxy before but have not been
able to find any info on using it for DNS reverse proxy (or UDP, more
generally) -- I've searched the website and list archives but wasn't
able to find anything about this (although if it's been discussed
before, I would be thankful for a pointer in the right direction).

As far as I can tell Squid won't route traffic away from dead nodes, I've found Pound (http://www.apsis.ch/pound/)
which does it, but it only does http/https AFAIK and
I am also looking for something that does DNS. Essentially, if I
could make Squid detect and avoid dead nodes and work with port
53(UDP/TCP) traffic or make Pound work with DNS, I would be a happy
camper.

We're also looking at F5 Global Load Balancers, but since they're like 50K$, something free/oss would be better. Any suggestions or pointers would be great.
