Ident is not a widely-used authentication mechanism, unfortunately.
Can you try earlier releases and find out if there is one which works
for you? The ideal would be to find two consecutive releases, one
working and one not. This would greatly help pinpoint the issue.

Well, I'm hearing a few ident issues at present, some people have worked
on and solved some of them in 3.1.0.7 and some since still testing patches.
This thread started with "Same problem in 3.1.0.6" no reference to
_which_ problem.
Thank you for pointing out an issue, please try again with some details
as to which you are referring, and if possible test out the patches we
have in bugzilla for the remaining ident issues.
Then I must stat yet again the words written next to the download links:
"If you have any problems with a development release please write to
our squid-bugs@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or squid-dev@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx lists. DO
NOT write to squid-users with code-related problems."
