Confirmed this problem *does* exist on IE6 behind Squid by attempting to download a suse 10.x DVD image some 3454MB in size. Download indicator went form 0% to 100% in less than a second and confirmed a download size of 554 bytes in 1 sec. Confirmed this problem *does not* exist on IE7 behind Squid. Same file started at the same time and the download indicator tells me I can expect a 2:42 wait with the current download rate of 355 KB/sec (Not bad for a 512kbps DSL).
