The servers need to know what to respond with when receiving a request
for http://proxy1.example.com via the reverse proxy.

If you only have a single site per server and this is the default site
on that server then it's usually not a problem.

You mean single site per each backend web servers (10.0.0.1 and
10.0.0.2) rt ..? ..
