Ya thanks a lot.
i've got another question.
since i'm running a proxy server for an Internet Service Provider, the
windows domains for which we need to support NTLM are large in number and
belonging to different companies, is it practical to configure the squid and
samba in such way that squid will be able to support NTML for multiple
windows domains? pls advise. thanks in advance.

Using a more recent Samba version is strongly recommended. Samba-2.X is
end-of-life.

Do you have a Windows domain? If so then the above is the information
about your Windows domain and only you can know what to enter.. (your
windows domain name, and your windows domain controller)
If you do not have a Windows domain then NTLM won't work "magically".
