getting a precompiled binary is preferred for NT. That

The official page of the Windows port is:

http://www.acmeconsulting.it/SquidNT.html

Here, starting from the 2.3 STABLE 4, you can always find the Windows binaries.

I also tried to compile Squid for Windows a few ago and ran
into a dead end. I was using something called Cygwin which
apparently 'prepares' the Win environment to run linux
commands (that was my understanding). But Cygwin installed
FOREVER on my XP machine and I abondoned it.

The Windows port of Squid 2.5 can be compiled with Microsoft Visual Studio 6 SP6, MinGW+MSYS or Cygwin, but the first two are a better solution.

The provided binaries are compiled with VS 6.

Guido
