Tomasz,

Several tools are capable of doing this already, think of MRTG and
BigBrother. Sure it's a good idea to do something like this yourself, but I
think it's an even better idea to merely customise the above mentioned
applications to suit your own needs instead of spending a -lot- of time
writing an own monitoring-application. :)
