Hey, I always download the source code rpm and use the "config" file in the /usr/src/linux-2.x.xx-ix86.config that is created with the source rpm. Also, I always compile a new kernel with from the tarball and use the option "Load an alternate config file" or something like that in the kernel configuration screen.
