   Can't trust the PDB Browser.. Had to ask you ;-) Some places in
the PDB Browser says  Gimp Normal Mode (with spaces) !!!

    Thanks for clarifying this. I was confused because HARDLIGHT
is not a new layer mode, yet it fails.. so the compatibility is
not consistent.. whereas i expect GRAIN-MERGE-MODE being relatively
new layer blending mode, to adopt the latest style... it is a good 
choice to append -MODE, as long as it is consistent across all 
modes. i have removed all deprecated functions and static names. 
Hope it will not bomb out in later versions of Gimp.. ;-)
