What I found interesting about the problem was that the ifconfig command on the ramdisk was identical to the one that I have on my running Red Hat 7.2 system. I'm using a CTC connection, and Maciek is using an OSA-2 card, but I would not have thought that to make much of a difference. Is there any chance the Red Hat developers can make anything out the kernel oops? However, when the system was coming up "ifconfig" was invoked again, causing the same Oops and making the system unaccessible from the network, an thus unusable. - I was using the complete RedHat distribution obtained from ftp.redhat.com. All files were tested and proved to be correct. - The same OSA-2 card (in Ethernet mode) was used in the same configuration by other systems (SuSE Linux among others) and worked very well.
