Right, we aren't including the ansi terminfo entry in the installer ATM.

That's the problem. Nobody here has ever tried that.
Try telnetting in from a Linux machine.

If you don't have another Linux machine, try telnetting in from windows
and setting TERM=linux
This may or may not work, I don't have windows and I don't have the
slightest clue about the escape sequences its telnet client understands.
