Good spotting. I have seen patches in this area that should stabilize
the s390 2.4 kernel. I am not actively tracking this and still
run with a 2.2 kernel until these things are more tested out...

E.g. the marist mailinglist has a patch posted on Feb 23rd with
patches from Ulrich Weigand that might fix all this, if you want
to test this out.
