I want to build some cross-compatible packages. My build server is a CentOS 6.2 and has rpm-libs-4.8.0 and rpm-4.8.0. The problem is that i want to install rpms on older distributions. So the question is, is there a way to build packages with "legacy" support? Like some way to force the rpm to use other payload and filedigest methods that have wider support. Cause it feels kind of backwards to install centos 4 to build rpm packages that should work on old and new versions of rpm.
I use mock to build RPMs for older versions of CentOS. It installs a minimal CentOS in a chroot to perform the build. You can get mock from EPEL.
