Could it be the opposite? I could've sworn we have NPTL (glibc 2.3.3)

Don't know, but I suspect you may be right...Jeff, you know the
getconf magic to tell if you are on an NPTL system or not...is there
something you can do with the rpm executable to tell how its been
compiled?


Hint: nptl-devel not installed == no NPTL for the static linkers.
