I have a script in my older version of the rpm spec ( %preun) that is
buggy. How do I prevent my older rpm's preun being executed when i
upgrade my rpm??

To cancel *all* scripts, add --noscripts to the rpm command line paras.
But that's probably not what you want. There's no way rpm 4.3.3 or
earlier can selectively choose what scripts not to run.
