Ok, I want to install src rpms down a non standard install path and user rebuild from src
what should the .rpmmacros contain.

Thanks

First you want to do:

mkdir -p /home/username/redhat/{SOURCES,SPECS,BUILD,SRPMS,RPMS/i386,RPMS/i486,RPMS/i586,RPMS/i686,RPMS/noarch,RPMS/athlon}

Then create a file in /home/username called .rpmmacros which contains at least the following line:

%_topdir /home/username/redhat

HTH
