You can query the package for that information. rpm -qp --queryformat '%{PREFIXES}' foo-1.2-3.arch.rpm If there are prefixes then the package has been specified to be relocatable. Now as to whether the package will actually work correctly that is a different question. I have seen a lot of packages claim to be relocatable but in reality are not.
