rpm package identification discrepancy

Hello,

I'm trying to install a binutils rpm on a system running FC 2.
The rpm seems to be legitimate as i've installed it successfully on a couple of other machines.
And i've run rpm on them again just to make sure & got:

+ > rpm -Uvh binutils-2.15.90.0.3-5.i386.rpm
+ warning: binutils-2.15.90.0.3-5.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 4f2a6fd2
+ Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
+ package binutils-2.15.90.0.3-5 is already installed

However, when i install this rpm on another set of hosts, i get the error:

+ > rpm -Uvvh binutils-2.15.90.0.3-5.i386.rpm
+ D: ============== binutils-2.15.90.0.3-5.i386.rpm
+ binutils-2.15.90.0.3-5.i386.rpm: not an rpm package (or package manifest):
+ D: found 0 source and 0 binary packages

I've copied the package over using scp and then sftp and also tried wget, as far as i can tell the file
hasn't been corrupted. The systems are almost identical i386s, with rpm version of 4.3.1. In fact
these systems are clones of each other except that one has succeeded with a mass rpm install and the
other go stuck on this particular one. The other rpms that i need to install are dependent on this one
and seem to have been recognized as valid rpm packages.

Any help or suggestions on how to get around this would be highly appreciated.

thanks,

ivan.
