up2date mangled rpm db

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi all,

I ran up2date last week but on restarting X, I noticed
that I lost all my gnome icons. In addition, mozilla
disappeared from the machine. Other stuff might be
missing.

Trying to reinstall missing stuff either from both
/var/spool/up2date and /var/spool/repackage fails but
nothing works -- I get a variety of missing
dependencies, bad signatures, bad checksums.

rpm -q on most of the XFree packages (and some others)
reports 'not installed' -- but that's not accurate. X
is running (without icons) and the libraries that rpm
insists are missing are on the machine.

I had to run xfs by hand to get X started at all, and
I tried running ldconfig. I tried rebuilding the rpm
db. Nothing works. The version of XFree running is the
one that shows up in repackage, not the newer one.

Can anyone help?

I have RH 3.0 ES on the machine (had to buy something
from Dell with it), but it seems I didn't get much for
my $350.00 -- except a fragile up2date.

When I ran up2date, it seemed to finish, but I had
blanked out windows, so there might have been some
information there that was lost.

Thanks in advance for any help.
