In my experience, the above is due to the stripping being done with eu-strip instead of plain strip, which happens when the redhat-rpm-config package is installed. I also understood from some of jbj's comments that the reason stripping was preferred with eu-strip, was to fix similar problems when stripping with strip... go figure :-/ Possible hints : https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=88417 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=89290 (yes, these are old!) All in all, I doubt this is related to %_tmppath.
