LVM question

We are trying to make our Linux /oracle system more
flexible by using LVM but I have a question that I haven't
found the answer to.

Platform
Dell PowerEdge 2650	4GIG Mem
				3 69 SCSI
RHEL 3.0

RAID	Hardware Raid 5 (3 disks)
2 LVM
/boot and swap are separate.
rootvg	contains / /usr /var /tmp
datavg	contains /opt /u02 /u03 /u04 (for oracle)

used e2fsadm to expand datavg
I want to reduce /usr on a LVM but it is the root
partition but can't umount it.

Using linux rescue doesn't work for the root volume..

Boot disk???
