Hi folks -

Summary:

Attempting to rpm -e a package causes a very fast ramp in memory usage to >2G
according to top, machine swaps itself into a frenzy and eventually fails
with a message like Malloc reurned NULL for 4 (or 12 sometimes) bytes. This
is with Fedora's rpm-4.3-0.14 on a machine with 1GB of real memory.

Are there any suggestions for debugging what is going on? I have tried
deleting the __db.* guys and rpm --rebuilddb, no difference.

Some background: the package being erased is a foreign kernel-source RPM that
I wanted to examine the contents of. It had an unfulfilled dependency
(something like c_compiler) which I --forced into submission, since I only
wanted to examine the sources and not compile them.
