Hi! I'm new to the list and need some helping getting my RH8.0 working with sound. Running a Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop. Have the build in ESS Solo-1 ES1938S Maestro-3i card that came with it (I think that's the right version of ESS Maestro). I'm trying to get the ALSA files in place so I can get system sounds and CD Music sound, etc when in GNOME. Everything seems to go well expect some probs. with the snd-es1938.o file. Especially when I /sbin/modprobe snd-1938.o from root. I get the following: # /sbin/modprobe snd-es1938 /lib/modules/2.4.18-17.8.0/kernel/sound/pci/snd-es1938.o: init_module: No such device Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters. You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg /lib/modules/2.4.18-17.8.0/kernel/sound/pci/snd-es1938.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.18-17.8.0/kernel/sound/pci/snd-es1938.o failed /lib/modules/2.4.18-17.8.0/kernel/sound/pci/snd-es1938.o: insmod snd-es1938 failed The snd-es1938.o IS in the /lib/modules/2.4.18-17.8.0/kernel/sound/pci directory. I don't seem to have any sound cards installed however. I get this in dmesg: ESS Solo-1 soundcard not found or device busy. I also see this in /proc/pci: Bus 2, device 3, function 0: Multimedia audio controller: ESS Technology ES1983S Maestro-3i PCI Audio Acc elerator (rev 16). IRQ 5. Master Capable. Latency=32. Min Gnt=2.Max Lat=24. I/O at 0xec00 [0xecff]. Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xf8ffe000 [0xf8ffffff]. Any ideas? I'm really stuck and would love to get sound in redhat! Anything else I should check? Thanks! -matt __________________________________________________________________ The NEW Netscape 7.0 browser is now available.
