A little more detail than the two words you provide would be needed to track this one down: having successfully built the alsa-driver-0.9.0rc3 rpms on 2 machines (one p4, one athlon) for both the original and updated kernels, I am reasonably sure that they do build successfully on some (and possibly many) systems.
