[Sound] No sound on speakers from and audio CD

Hello,

I am installing/configuring RH8.0 on Dell Dimension 8200.
ALL sound services work fine under WindowsXP. All sound services
also work under RH8.0, EXCEPT, when audio CD is inserted into CD drive,
the sound can only be heard with headphones attached to the drive,
not thru sound card! (I tried gnome-cd, and other CD players...)

>From lsmod:
i810_audio 25224 1 (autoclean)
ac97_codec 13384 0 (autoclean) [i810_audio]
soundcore 6532 2 (autoclean) [i810_audio]

>From /proc/pci:
  Bus 0, device 31, function 5:
Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio (rev
4).
      IRQ 10.

I can rip the audio files from an audio CD (with grip)
compress to *.ogg and then play with xmms -- then sound
works fine, but not directly from audio CD.

Gnome-cd shows tracks being played, time, and generally seems
to be working fine with an audio CD, but NO SOUND comes out
(only to headphones)!

Can anybody help?
