I don't know the answer, but it's good to hear I'm not the only one.  

I'm using alsa, which worked fine with Red Hat's kernel release before 
kernel-2.4.18-17.8.0.  On "upgrading" to kernel-2.4.18-17.8.0 when Red 
Hat released it yesterday, alsa broke.  I posted that to this list 
yesterday, as well as an alsa list, but so far have heard nothing.

Got to be something.
