[Sound] No sound on Toshiba 490XCDCT laptop

I have just installed Red Hat Linux 7.3 onto a Toshiba 490XCDCT laptop
(complete spec at www.e-laptop.com) and get no sound other than a beep
for ASCII 7 (BEL). The soundcard is an integrated 16-bit Sound
Blaster Pro and OPL compatible Yamaha OPL3-SA2. According to
http://hardware.redhat.com/hcl/genpage2.cgi?pagename=details&hid=3445
this is compatible with Red Hat Linux, but when I try to run
sndconfig, I get the following:

The following error occurred running the modprobe program:

  /lib/modules/2.4.18-3/kernel/drivers/sound/opl3sa2.o:
  init_module: No such device
  /lib/modules/2.4.18-3/kernel/drivers/sound/opl3sa2.o: insmod
  /lib/modules/2.4.18-3/kernel/drivers/sound/opl3sa2.o failed
  /lib/modules/2.4.18-3/kernel/drivers/sound/opl3sa2.o: insmod
  sound-slot-0 failed

Googling around, I see others have had this problem, or something with
the same results, but the solutions suggested all go over my head as
regards sysadminning knowledge, and often involve recompiling the
kernel -- something I wish to avoid if I can (as if it goes wrong,
I'll be stuck). I installed Red Hat Linux using the setup wizard, and
the only non-supplied software I've put on the machine since is
Perl/Tk (from CPAN).

Can anybody help me out?
