CTRL+ALT+F1 should get you a console login prompt.

>From there, edit /etc/inittab:

Change 
id:5:initdefault:

To 
id:3:initdefault

You can then reboot (type init 6) to make sure the system boots into the
mode you want.
Once logged in, you can run Xwindow by typing "start x".  When you exit
Xwindow, you will be dropped back to the console.
