CTRL+ALT+F1 should get you a console login prompt. >From there, edit /etc/inittab: Change id:5:initdefault: To id:3:initdefault You can then reboot (type init 6) to make sure the system boots into the mode you want. Once logged in, you can run Xwindow by typing "start x".
