To deal with the problem of Windows installation wiping out your bootloader, see http://linux.techteam.gr/docs/mandrake/10/starter/troubleshooting-filesystem.html It says how you can reinstall grub or, alternatively, how you can save a copy of the boot sector and later restore it.
