Aaron -- Thanks for responding. I'm going to send this to the fedora list in a minute too. The passwd file does not have any other entries with 500 ids. In fact this is the only user I've created other than root and the regular user that FC1 creates at install time. Shadow file has an entry with the password string and the correct usr-id. In fact I can FTP to the box fine (it shows the listing of files etc, havent tried uploading/downloading yet) Below are the relevant lines from both the passwd and shadow file: passwd: newuser:x:500:500::/home/newuser:/bin/bash shadow: newuser:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:12901:0:99999:7::: On 4/28/05, akonstam@xxxxxxxxxxx <akonstam@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > On Thu, Apr 28, 2005 at 01:47:51PM -0400, FS wrote: > > Hello all, > > > > I set up a new FC1 machine yesterday and created a user "newuser" > > using "adduser newuser" and changed its password. > > > > When I try to ssh to the said account, it doesn't work.
