Thanks. My box is a little odd - the network connection doesn't work. This is a VM machine built using VMware inside Win2K on an IBM T23 laptop. I only have one IP address frm a cable modem and the VM's NAT doesn't work well for redhat (don't know why). So, I can't use up2date utility. However, here are what I did, force to rpm X11, which works. then use "xinit" to kick off a simple X term (the key is xinit allows me to enter runlevel 5). From there, I run all xclient programs including redhat-config-packages ... it's always so much fun with Linux ...
