Deleted aliases.db and checked the syntax in aliases. Restarted sendmail and the aliases.db file was rebuilt. Same problem persists. -----Original Message----- From: shrike-list-admin@xxxxxxxxxx [mailto:shrike-list-admin@xxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Aaron Konstam Sent: Tuesday, February 17, 2004 10:39 AM To: shrike-list@xxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: sendmail not using /etc/aliases file On Tue, Feb 17, 2004 at 10:12:17AM -0600, Leonard, Phil wrote: > >look at your sendmail.cf to see what's there. the default is > > > > # location of alias file > > O AliasFile=/etc/aliases > > > >but the location could have been changed by someone or it could have > >been commented out. > > > >of course you're issuing the "newaliases" command after making > >changes to the aliases file. > > > >just one thought -- you are *certain* that your system is using > >sendmail, not postfix? a RH9 box can be configured either way. the > >postfix alias file is elsewhere. > > > > Thanks for the reply. Yes I checked the sendmail.cf entry for where the aliases file is located. I even tried changing the entry to a new location and creating an aliases file there. Again it didn't help. Yes, I have checked to make sure the system is running sendmail. I have other boxes running sendmail and they don't have this problem, which is why it is so puzzling to me. > > > -- I would remove the aliases database and force newaliases to create the databas from scratch. Another thing to look for is any syntax error that might not be caught by the newaliases processing but would cause a particular alias to be ignored. -- ------------------------------------------- Aaron Konstam Computer Science Trinity University 715 Stadium Dr. San Antonio, TX 78212-7200 telephone: (210)-999-7484 email:akonstam@xxxxxxxxxxx -- Shrike-list mailing list Shrike-list@xxxxxxxxxx https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/shrike-list -- Shrike-list mailing list Shrike-list@xxxxxxxxxx https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/shrike-list
