Hello to all and a thank you in advance, As will become very clear to all I'm really new to linux and to be honest doing the "RTFM" is causing me to pull the last of my hairs. I have installed linux on one other box with no problems before getting a boxed Red Hat 9. It would seem it installed it's self well, but for just having to set-serial to get the modem working. The only thing that it is not which is very annoying to me is after the screen comes up with the choices (I have a dual boot box) and I pick one or let it default at which time my screen goes blank until it's ready for me to login. Again everything that comes up on that screen is "almost" all meaningless to me, but somehow reassuring. When I try to shut down my box everything does show up on screen and all is well until it gets to: "Saving mixer settings Syncing hardware clock to system time Turning off swap: Turning off quotas: Unmounting file systems: Halting system... Flushing ide devices: hda hdc hdd Power down." And there it'll stay, will not turn off until I hit the off switch on the box. Did I miss something on the install? Or an option I can enable somewhere hidden in front of me? Again thanks in advance for any and help.
