Networking Challenge Shrike to Shrike?

Been trying today to share files between my Shrike desktop & Shrike 
notebook, and for the notebook to share the modem on the desktop.

I have a live connection per Traceroute but when I activate Network 
Servers I can only see Localhost under Mygroups.

Where do I look to cause folders on each to be seen by the other and
to make the desktop modem accessible by Mozilla from the notebook, please?
