"Vanilla" is American English slang for "just plain--no fancy stuff
added".  Rum Raisin might be more like the Red Hat kernels, with NPTL
and other flavors and mix-ins added to the "vanilla" unpatched kernel.

An attachment would have been nice, a URL would have been nicer.
That's a pretty long e-mail to send to a list of thousands of
subscribers (most of whom won't use it, even if they appreciate it in
principle).
