if you want them all to work together, search google for xinerama.   without it, you can't move a window from one screen to another. 

the first link is for the linux documentation project (tldp) and gives you very through documentation on how to set up.

Yes.

Do you want the monitors to behave independently, or did you want them to
behave as one large desktop?
