extended acl on red hat 9

Hi all,

since I sometimes am in trouble with setting proper file access
permissions for more than 5 or 6 groups/users, I was very pleased, to
read about the benefits of using acl's on ext2/3 filesystems.

But disillusion came fast: Redhat seems to have disabled the
acl-support, and I don't know exactly, how to enable it. Simple
installing the acl-support rpm's from acl.bestbits.at and remounting the
filesystem with the acl option does not work.
Does anybody know, how to enable the acl support on a rh9 kernel?

A red hat document warned about lacking stability of acl. Somehow, this
document was the only one, that warned about using acl. What do you
think, are acl safe for an ext3 filesystem?
Or what else would you do, if you want to use more flexible access
permission managment?

Thanks for any hint,
Clemens von Musil
