This is at the bottom of all my .bashrc files by default.
# Source global definitions
if [ -f /etc/bashrc ]; then
        . /etc/bashrc
fi
Then in /etc/bashrc, it creates the way your prompt looks.

I have tried all of the hints, none have worked. I have switched to eterm which worked perfectly without tweaks.
