would like to know what's the easy and straight way to
compile the RH9 rpms sources for an i686 ?
will I gain in speed ?
Short answer, no.
Even longer answer: There are very few RPMs that benefit from being compiled for i686 so that they won't run on other architectures. Only three Red Hat RPMs spring to mind: the kernel, glibc and openssh -- and surprisingly enough these come in i686-specific variants.
