That's not right: I run Sun's Linux 1.4.2 JDK with Mozilla 1.2.1 on RedHat 9 and Mozilla 1.4 on SuSE 8.1 (actually Sun's Java Desktop beta). I've had no gcc compilation or other issues running either version.
