corrupt filesystem

hi all,
i'm not able to boot into my linux box after a bad shutdown. On booting, I
get dropped into a root shell and the following errors are reported:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Setting default font (latercyrheb-sun16): Cannot open font file
latercyrheb-sun16.
/etc/rc.sysinit : line 70 : 32 Aborted (and some more errors
regarding rc.sysinit)
LC_ALL=C grep -q "Red Hat" /etc/redhat-release

Mouting proc filesystem [FAILED]
Configuring kernel parameters	[FAILED]
Setting clock (localtime)	[FAILED]

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At the shell I tried e2fsck -b 8193 /dev/hda9 and I got the error: bad
magic number in superblock. I mounted the partition in Knoppix and did an
e2fsck. An error occured saying that / was not unmounted cleanly. Free
blocks, inodes and directory count for many groups was wrong, and selected
the option (y) to fix them. I rebooted and tried do the same using other
backup superblocks, but it was of no use. And one more thing, I found that
ls and ps commands were not working on the corrupted filesystems. On doing
an ldd some .so files were found to be missing. These commands did not
work even after copying the /lib and /bin from another pc.

I have attached output of the commands that I tried. It would be very nice
if I could avoid reinstalling the system :-) Thanks in advance.
