Colorado Tape Backup

Kudzu correctly recognized the old HP Colorado 8GB IDE tape drive on my 
machine. I can't figure out, however, how to actually use this drive to 
backup data. That is to say, how do I get Amanda, or whatever, to 
recognize the drive and use it?
