My suggestion is to read the documentation found both in the man pages and at the Apache Software Foundation. That is the most important step you can take.

I do not think that SSL is in any way a 'no brainer'. There are issues such as: updating to the latest version of OpenSSL; obtaining a certificate; installing it; verifying it; developing and testing whatever code requires the encrypted connection; DNS; obtaining domain names...what you are doing is extremely complex and needs careful thinking through.

OpenSSL was rebuilt from scratch using the latest version c although I bet the stock version a would have been alright. I am using test certificates till I can get it working right so thats not an issue, the program is pre-existing code and very secure. DNS ah well I was trying to avoid running another DNS server inside the lan but I may have no choice. This all for testing, which means I just need to figure out how to make it work. Production servers require carefull though planning, and beta testing;) But thanks for your input:)

Hello,

Sorry but I am new to Apache 2.x and need to get SSL installed and working, the RH binaries used to have Apache preconfigured with SSL so it was a no brainer. Can anyone give me a hand or point me to an online doc? Everything I find makes me recompile everything which I would really rather not do.

Oh and one side thing, how can I remove RPMS by wild card like *gnome*?
