The PhatBox is a small Linux PC and does play Ogg files. Ogg support, however, is in beta stage and appears to track development of the Tremor (non-floating point) decoder library.

Regarding price, I agree that $895 is too high. Kenwood (and probably others) sells a rebadged version without speech synthesis for much less
