I'd like to give that a try, but the rpm I d/l'd from sourceforge was
packaged for RH 8, and I ran into dependency issues.

My question: how can I best meet the dependency pre-requisites for this

RH 9 (which is currently my OS?? I'm feeling my way along, so
step-by-step help would be most welcome

Oops, I really need to shut down the sourceforge page. It hasn't been updated in a while. The _real_ place for it is http://www.mondorescue.org . There are RHL9 rpms there to your hearts content.
